By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Ministry of Economic Development (MED) through its Resilient Rural Belize (RRB) Programme is inviting proposals for the architectural design of three storage and packing facilities.
The consulting firm is to prepare a complete set of architectural drawings for packaging and storage facilities for three producer organizations, namely the Valley of Peace Farmer’s Association in the Cayo District, the Maya Green Growers’ Cooperative of San Antonio, Cayo, and the New River Farmers Cooperative of San Carlos, Orange Walk.
The architectural designs are to include electrical drawings (digital and hard copies), for a solar-powered electrical system and priced Bill of Quantities for multiple Producer Organizations (PO).
“One of the objectives of the Programme is to assist small farmers to become more climate-resilient by improving their agricultural production through investments in climate-resilient agricultural technologies such as covered structures, water harvesting facilities, and storage facilities,” said the Ministry of Economic Development in its tender offer.
“To accomplish this, the Programme must prepare appropriate designs and architectural drawings, which shall be used for the procurement of quality services and materials for the construction and delivery of all identified technologies.”
The Ministry of Economic Development said the deliverables for the project shall include: Work Plan with work schedule for the project; Preliminary Report of findings; Initial Renderings of Drawings in 3D view; Final architectural and electrical design and detail working drawings, including 3D Renderings, for the structure in digital and two (2) hard copies; and Priced Bill of Quantities for the completion of the three facilities.
MED said the winning consulting firm will be selected in accordance with the procurement procedures set out by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and that the request for proposals is open to all eligible bidders as defined in the policies.
The storage and packing facilities for these three producer organizations is part and parcel of the six-year Resilient Rural Belize programme which the Government of Belize (GOB) is conducting “through a financing agreement with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and Green Climate Fund (GCF)”.
The programme is expected to help farmers employ climate-resilient agricultural practices and technologies for improved and more profitable production of select vegetables, fruits, and honey value chains which should, in turn, strengthen the small farmer cooperatives and the relevant GOB Departments.
The deadline for the submission of proposals is at 10:00 am on April 15, 2022.
“Consulting Firms interested in receiving the RFP and submitting a Proposal should register their interest by sending an e-mail (with subject: Request for RFP – Architectural Services for the Design of Three Storage and Packing Facilities) to the Procurement Officer at [email protected] giving full contact details of the Consultant. This will ensure that the Consultants receive updates regarding this RFP,” said MED.
Consultants may submit their proposals at the Ministry of Economic Development at the National Agriculture Showgrounds in Belmopan or electronically at https://bit.ly/3Lcz8YK.
