Shoe thief jailed for one year

By BBN Staff: Richard Codd, an electrician of Zacaranda Street in Belize City, is serving a one-year prison sentence after admitting to stealing a pair of tennis shoes from the manager of Leslie’s Imports.

According to Anthony Leslie, he reviewed surveillance footage of the company’s property and caught the black and white Adidas trainers valued at $400 being taken by someone wearing an orange and green tennis shoe and a grey school bag with a Bluetooth speaker who entered his yard.

Leslie showed the footage to police, who hunted the suspect down and found Codd wearing the same outfit and carrying the shoes.

In court, Codd was unable to persuade the magistrate to spare him jail time after it was found that he had been previously convicted as many as five times for burglary and attempted theft.
