By Benjamin Flowers: Twenty-five-year-old Destiny Wagner, current titleholder of Miss Earth as well as Belize’s Sustainable Tourism Ambassador has another milestone in her rising career, being featured on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar Vietnam magazine.
In the accompanying article, Wagner not only used the platform to represent Belize but also to represent women of color as a whole and boldly broached the issue of natural hair and the contempt that some have for it.
“I think for years black women have been policed for their hair,” Wagner said. “However, representation is so important! Women are born in different shapes and sizes, different skin tones, and different hair types. I am blessed to be a representative of the earth and represent various cultures but more importantly advocate for unity and love.”
Wagner’s feature in the magazine represents another achievement on the international stage, after her historic win at the Ms. World Pageant in November 2021, becoming the first Belizean to ever win the competition and the second “black woman” to ever with the pageant since its launch back in April 2001.
The Belize Tourism Board has since congratulated Wagner on the achievement, posting ” Congratulations to our very own #MissEarth2021, Destiny Wagner, for making the cover of Harper’s Bazaar Vietnam magazine! Belize continues to shine on the international stage,” on its official Facebook account.
Breaking Belize News joins in congratulating Wagner on her stellar representation of Belize on the world stage.
