By BBN Staff: Two people are dead and 14 others have varying degrees of injuries following a road traffic accident in Louisville Village, Corozal District, between Miles 72 and 73 Philip Goldson Highway on Saturday night.

Head of Communications for the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Assistant Superintendent Fitzroy Yearwood, explained that officers responded to the scene to find that two vans, one bearing a Corozal license plate, the other bearing a Dangriga license plate, had collided with each other.

The van with the Corozal plates had a total of 13 people on board, who were reportedly coming home from a church service, when the Dangriga van, which had three people on board, approached and tried to overtake it. During the overtaking, the vehicles ended up colliding and the crash ensued.

“We do have a deceased from each vehicle,” Yearwood said. “We know that Steve Grant (from the Dangriga van) passed away. He suffered head and body injuries and died while receiving treatment at the Corozal Community Hospital. From the Corozal van, we had an elderly lady…Ariana Chan, who was complaining of pains all over her body and passed away around 10:01 a.m. while receiving treatment also at the Corozal community hospital.”

Police are expected to give a full report later today, containing the names of all victims and the state of their injuries.
