Will Smith pens apology to Chris Rock after slapping him at the Oscars

Posted: Monday, March 28, 2022. 8:32 pm CST.

By Benjamin Flowers: After slapping comedian Chris Rock in the face at the Oscars last night, Will Smith has penned an apology, this time apologizing to rock directly.

The incident unfolded on live television after Rock made a joke about Smith’s Wife Jada Pinkett Smith, using a “GI-Jane” reference to make fun of her shaved head.

Smith took umbridge with the comment because his wife suffers from Alopecia, a condition that causes hair loss, and marched up on stage then slapped Rock in the face.

He would later give a tearful apology to the attendees and the organizers of the Oscars during his acceptance speech after he received the award for Best Actor but stopped short of apologizing to Rock.

Today Smith posted the apology to his social media pages condemning violence in all its forms and noting that he understands jokes made about him but ones about his wife were too much to bear.

“I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness,” Smith said.

Following the incident the Oscars have condemned Smith’s actions and said that it will be launching a full inquiry into the incident. Rock has stated that he will not press charges.
