Man fined for assaulting his sister and threatening to burn her house down

By BBN Staff: An altercation between siblings this week escalated to the point of criminal charges being filed against a Belize City man.

Ernesto Quinote appeared unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today where he was read one count of common assault and one count of threat of damage to property.

Quinote was accused of pushing his sister and throwing a stick at her as they argued on Sunday, March 27. During the altercation, he also threatened to burn her house down.

In court, he immediately pleaded guilty to the charges and asked for leniency.

He was fined $205.00 for common assault which he has to pay by May 15, or spend two months in jail for default. He was also fined $605.00 for the threat of damage to property charge, which he has until May 31, to pay or he will spend six months in prison for default.
