Police rough up former Mace Bearer of the House Brian ‘Yellowman’ Audinette

Posted: Tuesday, March 29, 2022. 10:30 am CST.

By BBN Staff: A video surfaced on social media over the weekend of former Mace Bearer of the House of Representatives Brian “Yellowman” Audinette, being manhandled by police as they detain him, but the Belize Police Department contends that their officers did what they were trained to do.

Audinette was detained outside a Belize City sports bar following an altercation and at some point, the police got rough with him. We note that the footage does not cover the entirety of Audinette’s exchange with the officers.

When asked about the force used to detain Audinette, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Fitzroy Yearwood, head of communications for the Office of the Commissioner of Police, said that he could not give any in-depth commentary on the issue because he was not fully appraised of the situation.

“But I can say that we were trained to use justifiable force and harm when we believe that you are behaving in a manner that would be life-threatening to us or threatening to us or even resisting or trying to allude to the police or trying not to be detained for an offence committed and then we would have to use what we believe is justified under the law,” Yearwood said.

He went on to say that, up to the time of his interview, Audinette had not filed any complaint with the Professional Standards Branch about his treatment by the officers.
