Posted: Wednesday, March 30, 2022. 1:33 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: There was a boat fire in Caye Caulker yesterday.

Police say that around 11:30 p.m. the 38-foot Cabin Cruiser Bertram boat with an onboard double diesel engine with markings “ZEN”, was moored at the point of Blue Wave Pier when it was discovered that the vessel was on fire.

Personnel from the Belize National Fire Service were called to the scene to extinguish the blaze; however, the vessel was completely destroyed.

Police interviewed 58-year-old Gerald Pacheco who owns the pier, who explained that the vessel belonged to an Asian businessman of a Ladyville address. Pacheco told police that the boat had been secured for a month and a half and no one had access to it. Police also interviewed Joey Pacheco, who said that around 5:00 p.m. he secured the dock ensuring that it was properly tied and locked.

Police have tried to locate the owner of the boat but were unsuccessful.

Investigations into the fire continue.
