Posted: Wednesday, March 30, 2022. 9:32 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: In the recent Budget Debate, Minister of Home Affairs and New Growth Ministries Kareem Musa spoke about efforts to boost forensic capability.

On the heels of the recent Forensic Science Symposium, the National Forensic Science Service will build its own complex, containing “the facilities to house the medical examiner’s facilities with a fully functional pathology lab as well as a forensic laboratory.”

Musa continued that this forensic lab “will boost our competence in the areas of chemical testing of evidence; biological analysis; storage for refrigerated and non-refrigerated evidence. This facility will further build out our ballistic testing reach.”

Not mentioned was any specific facility for DNA testing.
