Inflation: Consumer Price Index up 1.1 percent month-to-month and 4.3 percent for the year

By Aaron Humes: The Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB) records a 4.5 percent rise in prices for goods and services from February last year to February this year, reflecting, it said, higher costs for motor vehicle fuels, food, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), restaurant services, household cleaning and maintenance products, and women’s clothing.

Between January and February, consumer prices rose an average of 1.1 percent, again led by rising costs of motor vehicle fuels (almost 5 percent), vegetables, fruits, meats and cereals (1.2 percent); hotel accommodation and restaurant service (1.2 percent) and rising costs in liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and home rental (0.5 percent).

For the year to date, prices have risen by 4.3 percent compared to 2021, again a result of higher prices for fuel, food, LPG, and restaurant services, which respectively rose by 16.2, 3.1, 2 and 4.9 percent respectively.
