Butane prices rise 8 to 9 dollars per pound

By Benjamin Flowers: The wholesale and retail cost of Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) [Butane] has noticeably risen between March 2021 and March 2022.

Data from the Belize Bureau of Standards (BBS) shows that last march, wholesale customers for butane spent $3.59 per gallon. In March 2022, those customers now have to pay $5.25, a difference of $1.66.

Customers in urban areas buying butane by the pound saw prices increase by 39 cents a pound, from $1.18-$1.57. Meanwhile, urban area customers buying by the gallon saw prices go up by $1.66 from $5.19-$6.85.

Customers in rural areas saw the same increases, with prices moving from $1.20 a pound to $1.59, and from $5.29 a gallon to $6.95.

Within the several notices of price increase published by the Government of Belize, the BBS noted that the increases were due to increases in acquisition costs.
