BEL: ‘Most Belizeans paying outstanding bills, payment arrangement is available’

Posted: Thursday, March 31, 2022. 12:13 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: The heavy arrears for electricity payments which once topped $50 million has gone down somewhat.

But Sean Fuller, Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) general manager for commercial and retail services, says the company still needs the public to come in and resolve their bills to continue receiving service.

Fuller commended the public for helping to reduce the backlog to about $40 million, most of which is current, i.e., within the last 30 days.

For those with and without a job and owing, BEL invites you in to set up a payment arrangement to pay down the amount owed while continuing to keep current on billing. It is also offering incentives and prizes to those who keep their accounts current.

And Fuller noted that for at least the next six months there will be no changes in electricity rate, although bills above 100 dollars still incur general sales tax.

More on this later.
