Quality Poultry Hatchery to upgrade hatching facility in Spanish Lookout

Posted: Thursday, March 31, 2022. 5:28 pm CST.

By Rubén Morales Iglesias:

Quality Poultry Hatchery, formerly Friesen Hatcheries, is upgrading its hatching facility in Spanish Lookout.

“The new state-of-the-art hatching facility is promising an up-to-date biosecurity floor plan,” said Edward Dueck, Quality Poultry Hatchery General Manager.

“The estimated cost of this improvement is running between BZ$3 and BZ$4 million dollars but the improvement in the chick performance is significant. So, amidst this challenge that we have economically, we feel we’re still pressured to move on – with the pressure of competition and the demand that we have, with the costs rising, we have to find ways to get more chick yield out of the same amount of production.”

Dueck said the upgrade was imperative for the future economy and food supply chain of the country of Belize. It is expected the new hatchery should yield hatchability improvement, better chick yield, and feed conversion improvement.

“With economical pressures we are eagerly awaiting the higher chick yield, hatchability, as well as the feed conversion improvement in the broiler chicks,” Dueck said.

He said that due to the increasing fuel prices Quality Poultry Hatchery plans to install solar energy to offset the rising costs.

Quality Poultry Hatchery provides the chicks to Quality Poultry Products, which incidentally is the hatchery’s biggest shareholder.
