Suspect charged for choking man unconscious then robbing him

By BBN Staff: On March 7, two men ambushed a Belize City resident while he was buying at a fried chicken shop. The men choked him until he was unconscious then stole over $4,000 in jewelry and cash. On Thursday, one of the men believed to be responsible was arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court.

Troy Augustus, 27, appeared unrepresented before Senior Magistrate Tricia Pitts-Anderson to answer to a single charge of robbery.

Agustus pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of $5,000 each plus two sureties of $2,500 each. He is due back in court in May.

The incident happened in front of Tasty Fry Chicken Shop located on Mahogany Street adjacent to Saint Luke Methodist Primary School. The culprits made off with a gold chain valued at $1,000, earrings valued at $3,000, and $40 in cash.
