Schools have greenlight for face-to-face learning return, says Ministry of Education

Posted: Friday, April 1, 2022. 2:19 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Ahead of Easter vacation and with the lifting of nearly all COVID-19-related restrictions in effect, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology (MoECST) has issued the “green light” for all schools to return to face-to-face learning.

When that will be, however, is up to schools and their management. The Ministry says they can begin to chart their return to pre-pandemic daily schedules and continue to use the staggered schedule depending on their circumstances. However, it targets a full return for all face-to-face learning for the new school year due in August.

In the meantime, the virus has not gone away, and so schools are recommended to “continue the protocols of indoor mask-wearing, hand washing and sanitizing, as well as the practice of monitoring for COVID-19 symptoms, and asking that those with cold and flu-like symptoms remain at home,” remembering that “The health and safety of all students, teachers, and the entire school community remain of paramount importance.”

The Ministry issued its thanks to the public health experts and others who shepherded the return of learning at the start of the year and recommitted to safely and responsibly reopening schools and ensuring that all students can learn.
