Posted: Friday, April 1, 2022. 4:11 am CST.

By Larry Waight: As many areas of the world open up to tourism once again, many people are starting to plan vacations and travels.

For two years, billions of people have been restricted in their movements, and tourism has been dying a death. Now though, it is time for people to start moving again, and planning trips.

While many popular tourist destinations will be once again packed, it might be an idea to choose somewhere a little different. Perhaps then you can avoid the hordes of people who all end up in the same destinations.

Why not pick somewhere such as Belize, and see a different part of the world? And before you go, read up a little on where Belize is and what else you should know.

 Where is Belize exactly?

According to Worldometer, the population of Belize as of March 2022, was 410,457. The country itself is on the east coast of Central America and is fairly small in size.

At its widest, the country takes up 68 miles and is 170 miles long. It has shorelines on the Caribbean Sea, and the beaches can be spectacular. The west side of the nation has jungles, and there are Mayan ruins to visit and explore.

While Belize may not be the first country you think of when planning a vacation, there are plenty of things to recommend for it. Like anywhere set for tourism, it has watersports, outdoor activities, sightseeing, and a healthy nightlife.

Why should you visit Belize this year?

For many, the lockdowns were a time for reflection. A lot of people wrote bucket lists during this time and started new hobbies. The pandemic made people look at their lives differently in many cases.

Although millions of people will flood Portugal, Spain, and Thailand, once again. It might be a good idea to take a good look at the world and consider other options. If you wrote a bucket list and it included traveling more widely, then Belize could be your starting point.

Many others agree and the new cruise ship, the Viking Orion, made its first call to Belize recently. This cruise ship brought hundreds of passengers for the first time to Belize. So, why not you this year?

What should you understand about Belize before you visit?

Before you visit anywhere, it is always a great idea to bone up a little on the culture, and other facts about the place.

The pandemic has already been mentioned above, and of course, this is a consideration with traveling. One of the reasons to visit Belize is that it is largely safe from the virus.

Active Covid cases were around 300 in March this year, making it one of the safer countries in the world. At this point, South Korea is battling with an estimated 600,000 cases every day.

Carry on reading below to read up on some of the other things you should know about Belize before you visit.
