Jared Gongora shot in Unitedville, one detained for questioning

By Aaron Humes: Police are investigating and have detained one person for questioning in relation to the shooting of Jared Gongora, 33, in Unitedville, Cayo District on Friday evening.

According to police, Gongora said he was on his land in the village doing construction work when a dark blue, heavily tinted sport utility vehicle (SUV) arrived.

Two men, one “redskin” and the other dark, exited and the dark-skinned man asked Gongora, allegedly, if he had any marijuana to sell or knew where it was sold in the village.

But his companion pulled out a pistol and Gongora tried to run, only to run into the “redskin” man. As they struggled, the armed man shot him once above his right ankle and he was shot at again as he fled his attackers, who in turn escaped.

Gongora is in treatment and police investigations continue.
