Police condemn actions of ‘f*****g nasty’ cops involved in airstrip brutality caught on video; disciplinary action to follow

By BBN Staff: The Belize Police Department has condemned the behavior of two of its officers involved in a confrontation at the Sir Barry Bowen Municipal Airport.

The incident, caught on video and shared widely on social media, shows a male officer being belligerent and having rough physical contact with a tour guide, while the female police officer accompanying him does nothing to try and deescalate the situation. The officer, using many expletives, then threatens to bring the man videoing the incident up on charges of assaulting an officer, despite being the aggressor in the situation. The officer also slapped the phone from the man’s hand, attempting to stop the recording.

This morning, Head of Communications for the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Assistant Superintendent Fitzroy Yearwood, commented on the incident, stressing that the officers were in the wrong.

“The officers that appeared in that video were so unprofessional in executing their duties. I can assure you that they will be dealt with disciplinary [measures] for their actions,” Yearwood said.

The incident is expected to form a part of the weekly police briefing on Monday.
