Belize City Council installs parking meters in Belize City

By Benjamin Flowers: Today, the Belize City Council (CitCo) officially rolled out its parking meter project in two Belize City areas.

This morning CitCo installed meters on Albert Street from the intersection with Orange Street up to the intersection with Dean Street and from the Newtown Barracks exit by the Princess Hotel, up to Midtown Restaurant.

Those wishing to use the meters will need to purchase a parking meter card, which comes in several dollar values, from an authorized dealer.

CitCo says that, when parking at a meter, simply turn on the meter using the power button, insert the vehicle’s license plate number using the keypad on the meter, input the estimated parking time, and click okay. When prompted, hold the parking meter card up to the meter against the sensor with the wifi icon to pay.

The meter will then issue a receipt which is to be kept on the dashboard of the vehicle.

CitCo said that it hopes to address parking issues in congested areas of Belize City through the project.
