By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Chavarria Cycling Team’s Tyler Tejeda won 1st place in Youth Category in the 21st BEL Junior Cross Country Cycling Classic on Sunday.
The 74-mile race organized by the Cycling Federation of Belize (CFB) under the regulations of the International Cycling Union started at the Ferry in San Jose Succotz Village in the Cayo District at 9:00 a.m. and headed on the George Price Highway to Belize City finishing in front of the Marion Jones Sports Complex.
Tyler Tejeda led a six-man group to capture the top spot in the Youth Category and third place overall in the combined Junior/Youth Categories in 4:26:08, 26:17 behind Junior winner Renan Codd who clocked 3:59:51.
Only Tejeda and Travis Grinage were Youth riders in the six-man group. Grinage, who won the Ariel Rosado Trophy as the Youngest Rider to finish within the time Limit, took second place in the Youth Category.
Jaylen Briceño was 4th and Alvin Perdomo 5th, both clocking 4:26:17.
Hubert Grinage was 5th in 5:10:33 but both finished over the time limit.
The next two events in the Cycling calendar are the Women’s Cross Country Cycling Classic this coming Sunday, April 10, and the Holy Saturday Cross Country Cycling Classic on April 16.
