Fugitive who escaped from courthouse police custody during ‘bathroom break’ recaptured after nearly 2 months on the run

By BBN Staff: After 7 weeks and 5 days on the run, police have managed to recapture Edward Saldano.

The Belize Police Department issued an official update today saying that Saldano, who was wanted in connection with a murder investigation and for escaping lawful custody, had been apprehended.

On February 9, Saldano, who had been on remand at the Belize Central Prison since September 2021, was brought to Belize City for a court appearance. While at the courthouse, he asked to use the bathroom and then evaded officers to make his escape.

During his court appearance, bail was denied to him and he was to be remanded again until his next court appearance which was set for Thursday, April 7.
