G-Flow’s Renan Codd wins 21st BEL Junior Cross Country Cycling Classic in solo fashion

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: G-Flow’s Renan Codd won the 21st BEL Junior Country Cycling Classic on Sunday riding in alone more than three minutes ahead of his closest competitor.

The 74-mile race organized by the Cycling Federation of Belize (CFB) under the regulations of the International Cycling Union started at the Ferry in San Jose Succotz Village in the Cayo District at 9:00 a.m. and headed on the George Price Highway to Belize City finishing in front of the Marion Jones Sports Complex.

Codd clocked 3 hours, 59 minutes, and 51 seconds (3:59:51), 3:24 ahead of C-Ray Cycling Team’s Goran Gabourel who was timed at 4:03:15.

Chavarria Cycling Team’s Tyler Tejeda led a six-man group capturing third place in 4:26:08, 26:17 behind Codd. All other riders in this group were unattached riders. Mark Bowman Jr. was fourth, Travis Grinage finished fifth, Brandon Guerra took sixth, Delton Rojas finished seventh, and Elwin Humes rode in eighth.

Tejeda was the winner of the Youth Category and Travis Grinage won the Ariel Rosado Trophy as the Youngest Rider to finish within the time limit.

A group of five followed the six by nine seconds and were 26:26 behind Codd. Chavarria’s Christopher Waight was ninth, Ramon Codd tenth, Jaylen Briceño 11th, Alvin Perdomo 12th, and G-Flow’s Jamar Murry 13th.

Hubert Grinage was 14th and Team Cayo’s Khalil Gentle 15th in 5:10:33 but both finished over the time limit.

Three riders had to abandon the race, namely Chavarria’s Richard Rosado, Evrit Matute Jr., and Shane Marin Jr.

The next two events in the Cycling calendar are the Women’s Cross Country Cycling Classic this coming Sunday, April 10, and the Holy Saturday Cross Country Cycling Classic on April 16.
