Minister of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour and Local Government visits timber export company in southern Belize

By BBN Staff: Over the weekend, the Minister of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour, and Local Government Oscar Requena and his Chief Executive Officer, Valentino Shal, made a trip to Toledo to offer their support to Rax Muj Qiche Co. Ltd. in the Conejo Village, Toledo District.

Their Ministry notes that the Rax Muj Qiche Co. Ltd. is engaged in sustainable community forestry. The community-based enterprise is currently harvesting and exporting high-value timber to the United States and France.

The visit forms a part of a greater push by the Ministry towards transforming rural communities.

“We need more indigenous community-based enterprises. The wealth is there. We simply need to organize and capitalize on it for the benefit of our communities,” the Ministry said.
