By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) eased its travel warning to several countries this week, including Belize, St Lucia, and Canada.

The CDC changed its classification for 14 destinations to ‘Level 3’. This indicates a ‘high’ level of COVID-19 transmission, but it does not tell US citizens to avoid traveling to these places which were previously labeled ‘Level 4’.

The countries that are now at ‘Level 3’ are: Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belize, Canada, Grenada, Iran, Libya, Oman, Panama, Paraguay, Saint Lucia, and Suriname.

According to the CDC, a ‘Level 3’ destination is one where 100 to 500 cases per 100,000 people are reported to have COVID-19 over the past 28 days. The CDC recommends people are properly vaccinated if they should travel to these countries and avoid traveling to such places if they are not.

According to Travel and Leisure, the lowering in the travel warning comes as several countries have lifted travel restrictions quoting the Belize Tourism Board saying Belize has lifted pre-travel testing for vaccinated visitors, although it still requires visitors to buy a Travel insurance policy upon entering the country.
