The Belize Women’s National Team’s (BWNT) drew 1-1 with Aruba today Wednesday, April 6, in the Women’s World Cup Qualifiers.
Belize had to come from behind as Aruba opened the scoring in the 24th minute on a penalty kick goal by Vanessa Susanna. Aruba’s penalty kick resulted when Shante Chacon cut down Tariana Doornkamp.
Belize tied the ball game on a penalty kick as well. Mikhaila Bowden made good on the free kick in the 33rd minute after Aruba’s Jessica Rivero fouled Alisha Terry.
Both countries collected their first point of the Women’s World Cup qualifiers with the draw.
Belize’s starting lineup featured goalkeeper Jasmin Armstrong, defenders Shante Chacon, Mikhaila Bowden and Vailene Lambert, midfielders Ashley Rodriguez, Sabrina Eiley, Jesselle Conorque, and Florine Vasquez, and forwards Jayda Brown (captain), Shendra Casimiro, and Alisha Terry.
Khalydia Velasquez went in for Terry in the 37th, Roshanny Narvaez substituted Vasquez in the 46th, and Kaite Jones replaced Casimiro in the 81st.
Aruba play their next game at the FFB Field in Belmopan on Saturday at 4:00pm.
The BWNT will travel on Wednesday to San Salvador, El Salvador, to take on Barbados in their last game of the qualifiers next Tuesday, April 12 at 3:30 pm at the Cuscatlán Stadium.
