19 tropical storms including 9 hurricanes expected during the 2022 hurricane season

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Expect a very active hurricane season this year, say weather experts at the Colorado State University in the United States.

According to USA Today, meteorologist Phil Klotzbach and other experts from Colorado State University have predicted 19 named tropical storms with 9 becoming hurricanes during the 2022 hurricane season. This would be the seventh consecutive above-normal season.

The hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30 yearly but that doesn’t mean hurricanes can’t form before or after.

According to the Colorado State University’s experts four of the nine hurricanes are expected to be major storms ranging from Category 3 to Category 5.

The average is 14 tropical storms per season. Seven usually become hurricanes.

Klotzbach said El Niño and warmer-than-normal seawater in the subtropical Atlantic Ocean are the reason a very active season is expected.
