By BBN Staff: A Belize City man charged for burglary was additionally charged for a mischievous act after he gave police a false name.
Thirty-nine-year-old David Gregorio was arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today, accused of stealing a bicycle and two tires which had a combined value of $1,150.
He was apprehended by police and when he was questioned he gave his name as David Meighan; however, when officers further investigated, they learned his name to be David Gregorio.
In court, he pleaded not guilty to the burglary charge but pleaded guilty to the mischievous act, for which he was fined $150.00 plus $5.00 cost of court. He has until May 13, to pay his fine or he will spend six weeks in prison.
With respect to the burglary charge, he was granted bail in the sum of $4,000 plus two sureties of $2,000 each. However, he was unable to meet bail and will remain remanded to the Belize Central Prison until he is able to do so.
He is scheduled to return to court on June 7.
