The Belize Livestock Producers Association, Mexican meat giant SUKARNE, and an international animal health company Virbac, are holding cattle seminars around the country this week, said the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise (MAFSE).
“The seminars are being offered for cattle ranchers and livestock producers, as well as for technicians from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise,” said MAFSE.
“Topics in the seminars include management of preventative medicines for livestock; evaluation of cows for reproduction; issues with insemination and reproductive diagnosis of cows.”
MAFSE said the objective of the seminars being conducted in the Toledo, Cayo, and Orange Walk Districts is better management and control of herds.
The seminars come at a time when the livestock industry is experiencing a resurgence with exports to Mexico and Guatemala worth $50 million since November 2020. At the same time the Ministry of Agriculture along with the Belize Livestock Producers Association are looking at ways of improving the industry through better stock, embryonic transfers, plus seminars and workshops for the livestock producers on pasture management, supplemental feeding, forage utilization, and Climate Smart Agriculture practices.
