Belize Women’s National Football Team are on their way to El Salvador for Barbados game next Tuesday

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize Women’s National Football Team (BWNT) are already on the road to El Salvador to face Barbados next Tuesday in their final Women’s World Cup qualifier.

As soon as the game which they drew 1-1 with Aruba on Wednesday was over, the BWNT started packing their bags to travel by bus on Thursday morning to San Salvador via Guatemala. According to Football Federation of Belize (FFB) Executive Member Marlon Kuylen, the BWNT left this morning at 7:00.

Originally the match against Barbados was set to be played at Santo Domingo, capital of the Dominican Republic, or at least, that’s what the FFB were made to understand.

“We were told by Barbados that they wanted their home match to be in the Dominican Republic, so we started from early making arrangements to get our flights, and our hotels, and ground transportation there but that did not work out unfortunately,” Kuylen said.

“We were notified on March 21 by Concacaf that we would play in El Salvador instead and at this moment we are unable to get the entire delegation to El Salvador in time to play the match. We’ve tried all the airlines that we possibly could, and we are unable to do so and therefore we have to go by road.”

So, the team is now on the way.

“Of course, it’s one of the best bus lines, the most comfortable buses you can find in Central America that we’ll be travelling in,” Kuylen said.

The BWNT should arrive in San Salvador this evening. Kuylen said that will afford them recovery and preparation time for the match against Barbados which will be played at 3:30 pm on Tuesday, April 12, at the Cuscatlán Stadium in San Salvador.

The BWNT already knows the Cuscatlán Stadium having been there in February when they played against El Salvador and Panama.

In other Group D games, El Salvador host Barbados at 3:30 pm on Friday, April 8, at the Cuscatlán.

Aruba will play Panama at 4:00 pm on Saturday at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan

And on Tuesday, the same day Belize play Barbados, Panama will host El Salvador at 5:00 pm at the Rommel Fernández Stadium in Panama City.

So far, Panama and El Salvador have six points each, Barbados have three, while Belize and Aruba have one each.
