Boundaries of forest reserves and national parks in South to be amended

By Aaron Humes: Several southern forest reserves and national parks declared by the Ministry of Forestry will have their boundaries amended with Cabinet approval.

A statement from the Executive says, “These measures will be undertaken to regularize the current boundaries of these areas and improve the management of these forest reserves.”

The forest reserves in question are the Sibun Forest Reserve; Grant’s Forest Reserve; the Mango Creek Forest Reserves; the Machaca Forest Reserve and the Melinda National Park.

The No. 2 and 3 Mango Creek Reserves and Grant’s Forest Reserve cease to exist by Statutory Instrument and Mango Creek Reserves Nos. 1 and 4’s boundaries will be amended.

Melinda National Park loses 36 acres to the Stann Creek ITVET for conservation purposes, while the Machaca Forest Reserve sees 500 acres excised for community expansion.
