By BBN Staff: Edward Saldano Jr. who spent almost two months as a fugitive after escaping police custody at the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, claimed today that a police officer told him that he should leave and go home.
Saldano was remanded to the Belize Central Prison and had been brought to court on an armed robbery charge when he asked to go to the bathroom and escaped. He was not back in police custody until April 4.
He was arraigned in court today and charged with a single count of escaping lawful custody. He pleaded not guilty and said that a police officer told him in front of four witnesses that he was being “chanced” and that he should leave.
With respect to his charge for escape, Saldano was denied bail and remanded to prison until May 27, 2022; meanwhile, his armed robbery case was adjourned for June 28.
