By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The George Price Highway and Hummingbird Highways are to experience traffic interruptions on Friday and Saturday, April 8 and 9, to allow transportation of long and heavy bridge beams headed from Ladyville to Big Creek.
The Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing and M&M Engineering said, “extremely long and heavy bridge beams will be transported from Ladyville to Big Creek Bridge, located on the Coastal Highway” using the George Price and Hummingbird highways and advised drivers along the route “to take extreme caution, be vigilant and follow traffic signals and instructions of escorts when approaching the transported beams as they might take up the entire width of the highways.”
A press release by the Government of Belize Press Office said that when the beams reach Big Creek, “the beams will be offloaded and there will be approximately three to four traffic interruptions of at least 15 minutes each. We urge all motorists to respect flagmen directing the flow of traffic on site.”
The Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing and contractors said they appreciate drivers respecting and abiding by these safety rules and apologized for any inconveniences the transportation of the bridge beams may cause.
