31st Women’s Cross Country Classic set for Sunday on George Price Highway

The 31st Annual Women’s Cross Country Classic organized by the Cycling Federation of Belize (CFB) under the regulations of the International Cycling Union is set for Sunday morning.

The women’s race used to be held on the same day as the Men’s Cross Country Cycling Classic along with the Men’s Junior from Cayo to Belize City. So, when the men were on their way to Cayo, the women and the men juniors were riding to Belize City. But, after some years, the CFB decided to dedicate a day to each race.

G-Flow’s Renan Codd won the 74-mile Men’s Junior race from San Jose Succotz to Belize City last Sunday. This Sunday, April 10, it’s the women’s turn before the men elite hit the road on Holy Saturday.

The 31st Annual Women’s Cross Country Classic starts at the Queen Elizabeth Park in San Ignacio at 8:00 a.m. en route to BTL Park in Belize City via the George Price Highway. When the riders get to Belize City, they will enter by the Lord Ridge Cemetery, turn at the Central American Blvd roundabout, head to the Belcan Bridge, unto Princess Margaret Drive, finishing at the BTL Park, said the CFB.

Though the CFB has not yet published the official list of riders, they have posted ‘bios’ of the following riders who will surely be suiting up on Sunday: Alicia Thompson, Gabrielle Gabourel, Gabrielle Lovell, Nathalie Lovell, Fiona Castillo, Paulita Chavarria, and Patricia Chavarria.

The winner will rake in $2700 cash, a trophy, plus other prizes. Second place will receive $1350, a trophy, and other prizes as well.

Third place will be awarded $825 cash, a trophy, plus other prizes.

The Women’s Junior winner will receive $300 cash, a $300 gift certificate, a trophy, and a laptop.
