By Rubén Morales Iglesias: A Mexican delegation from the Quintana Roo Economic Development Ministry (Secretaría de Desarrollo Económico de Quintana Roo) is on a two-day visit to Belize during which they are touring several agro-processing facilities and key logistical infrastructure across the country.

“As a part of the Investment Exchange Programme between Belize and Mexico, representatives of the Secretaría de Desarrollo Económico de Quintana Roo and Mexican investors are in Belize on a two-day tour,” said the Government of Belize Press Office on Thursday evening.

“The delegation today (Thursday) met with Belizean officials at the Corozal Free Zone as well as toured the facilities of Quality Shrimp Belize Limited in Libertad and the Port of Belize Limited.”

The Press Office said the visit continues on Friday in Southern Belize.

The visit of the Mexican trade and investment delegation follows a similar visit by a Belize delegation to Quintana Roo on Wednesday. Both the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise (MAFSE) and the Press Office said the exchanges are a follow-up to the Latin American Summit held in Cancun in November 2021.

The Belize delegation which comprised representatives from MAFSE and the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment visited an industrial park and agro-processing facilities in the southern part of the neighboring Mexican state.

They toured CAPSICO, an export habanero processing facility in Felipe Carrillo Puerto, and lime company Limones del Caribe that processes limes for export to the United States. Limones del Caribe is located in Kancabchen, José María Morelos, Quintana Roo.

“Both site visits were meant to enhance the Government of Belize’s understanding of the opportunities that may exist for diversifying and scaling up Belize’s agro-productive sector with a goal of growing the nation’s exports and industrial development,” said the Press Office.

MAFSE Minister Jose Abelardo Mai led the Belize delegation to Quintana Roo. He was accompanied by Chief Executive Officer in the Office of the Prime Minister and Investment Exchange Programme organizer Narda Garcia, MAFSE CEO Servulo Baeza, MAFSE Policy Analyst Milagro Matus, Corozal Free Zone CEO Neri Ramirez, Managing Director of Belize Marketing and Development Corporation (BMDC) Valentin Carrillo, and representatives from the Investment Policy and Compliance Unit (IPCU) in the Ministry of Investment, the Public-Private Desk in the Office of the Prime Minister, the technical secretariat to the Economic Development Council (EDC), the Belize Marketing and Development Corporation (BMDC), and BELTRAIDE.
