Police warn businesses of increased delivery truck robberies

Posted: Friday, April 8, 2022. 11:22 am CST.

By BBN Staff: The Belize Police Department is warning businesses that there has been an increase in delivery truck robberies observed recently.

The department issued a public notice this morning, cautioning businesses and truck drivers to be extra cautious when making deliveries or picking up cash.

“We advise that they avoid picking up large quantities of cash and instead to use the banking system where possible. Delivery personnel must immediately report suspicious person(s) and vehicles around them when making deliveries or pick-up. Where it’s possible, they can obtain security services when conducting their business or picking up cash,” the department said.

Police also advised that large amounts of cash should never be displayed or handled openly in public and that businesses should use a secret compartment or safe when picking up cash.

The department also affirmed that it stands ready to respond immediately to any threat of crime to delivery truck personnel across the country.

This week there have been four reported delivery truck robberies, three within Belize City and one in St. Matthew’s Village, Cayo District. In all events, multiple armed culprits were involved.
