Volleyball makes a return with Men’s National Championship on April 9-10 at Mexico Center in Belize City

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Volleyball returns with the Men’s National Championship this weekend.

Volleyball is making a comeback with the Men’s National Championship scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, April 9 and 10.

The Belize Volleyball Association said the National Championship will be held at the Mexico Center at the Marion Jones Sports Complex in Belize City.

Twelve teams will compete for the National title including the U-19 squad selected from the U-19 national pool. The teams have been split in three pools:

Pool A: EA Warriors, OW Bad News, Cayo’s Alpha Warriors, Spanish Lookout’s Rednex

Pool B: Toledo Assassins, Eagles/Scorpions, San Pedro Sharks, U-19 team.

Pool C: Corozal Massives, SE Jaguars, The 822 from Belmopan, T-Rebels Jr.

Action on both days starts at 8:30 a.m.

The 22 games will be played on two courts. On Saturday, all the first-round games plus the first round of the playoffs. The semifinals and finals will be played on Sunday.

Eight teams will qualify for playoffs from pool play. In the quarterfinals, teams will be paired according to rank: 1vs 8, 2 vs 7, 3 vs 6, 4 vs 5.

The winners of each group will be ranked from 1 to 3 based on their records. The second-place teams will be ranked 4 to 6 and the best two of the three 3rd place teams will be ranked 7th and 8th.
