By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Aruba Women’s National Football Team stayed back after their game against the Belize Women’s National Team and will today, Saturday, face Panama in their final match of the Women’s World Cup qualifier in Belmopan.
The match is scheduled for 4:00 pm at the FFB Stadium.
This might be the beginning of foreign teams opting to play in Belize. Already, a number of national teams in the Caribbean are playing away from home, mostly because of lack of approved facilities in their countries.
In Group D, Aruba and Barbados are playing their home games away from home. In the first round in February, both played their home games in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. Aruba fell 7-1 to El Salvador while Barbados defeated Aruba 3-1.
Belize was also forced to play their first home game in El Salvador against Panama on February 20. That was due to a snafu by the FFB as neither of the two FIFA-approved fields, the FFB Stadium and the Isidoro Beaton, had insurance.
