Posted: Sunday, April 10, 2022. 8:26 am CST.

By Hugh O’Brien: On Saturday night, Breaking Belize News (BBN) reported that semi-pro footballer and budding artist, John King, was shot and killed in Belize City.

Initial investigations by Police reveal that on Saturday, 9th April, 2022, at 7:30 pm John King was at the residence of Mark Smith located on Victoria Street when the incident occurred. Accordingly King was at the residence using Mark Smith’s cellphone when they heard someone shouting the word “Evil” several times. King walked to the door to check who it was, and when he opened the door someone fired several shots at him causing his injuries. King ran to the bedroom area where he collapsed.

A badly injured King was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) for treatment but died just before 8:00 pm on the said night.

On June 9th last year, King was shot in the buttocks while hanging out with his friend Malcolm Myers on Victoria Street. King was hospitalized after that shooting and following his recovery, he decided to try his luck at being a musical artist. Since his decision to pursue a musical career, King produced a couple of videos which were posted on YouTube.

John King was a popular semi-pro football player who played with most of Belize’s semi-pro football teams, including the Green Machine (Verdes), Belize Defense Force, Wagiya, Police and the Belmopan Bandits. He also had his stint as a member of the Jaguars, Belize’s national men’s football team.
