By Aaron Humes: Leader of the United Democratic Party Moses “Shyne” Barrow has dismissed suggestions that the party is somehow short on finance.
To reports that property valuators this week visited the UDP Headquarters on Youth for the Future Drive (recently renamed the Henry Young Building after the former Minister, area representative and party chairman) and claims that a loan in the party’s behalf is being contemplated, Barrow responded to our queries on Friday by stating, “It is standard best practice for an evaluation of Party assets and liabilities to be undertaken whenever a new Party Leader is elected. Any speculation otherwise is without merit.”
But recently dismissed member of the Central Executive Committee and long-time party activist Delroy Cuthkelvin, who is believed to be an opponent of Barrow’s, has claimed that the new leader may be contemplating more than that – and putting the “House of Democracy,” as he calls it, at risk.
He reminded in a social media post that it “was established through the generosity, goodwill and sacrifice of many dedicated UDP’s like Henry Young, after whom the building is now named,” and further demanded answers on behalf of the party.
It remains to be seen if Barrow’s answer as stated above puts the matter to rest.
