By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Panama routed Aruba, mercilessly scoring nine unanswered goals in the Women’s World Cup qualifier at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan on Saturday. By the end of the first half, they led 6-0, adding three more in the second.
Laurie Batista led Panama with a hat trick scoring all three goals in the first half. Marta Cox added a brace with one goal in each half. Kenia Rangel, Yerenis de León, Erika Hernández, and Gabriela Leonards converted one each.
Panama has totalled nine points from three games.
El Salvador also totalled nine points as they downed Barbados 2-0 on Friday in San Salvador.
Panama and El Salvador will now decide the group winner when they meet on Tuesday in Panama. The Panamanian side are favourites since they have been able to beat their common opponents by wider margins plus the fact that they are playing at home in Panama City.
Apart from the Panama-El Salvador encounter, Belize also faces off with Barbados on Tuesday in San Salvador. Currently, Barbados have three points from their 3-1 win over Aruba while Belize has one point from their 1-1 draw with Aruba.
Aruba finished their participation with only one point.
