By BBN Staff: There were a number of truck robberies last week, but one of them turned out to be false.
Police say that a truck driver and his assistant, aged 31 and 22 years old, respectively, made a report on Friday, April 8th, saying that while they were making deliveries on Curl Thompson Street, three dark-skinned men, two of whom were armed with guns approached them and demanded money. The men alleged that the robbers stole over $2,000 before escaping toward Jane Usher Boulevard.
When officers reviewed surveillance footage of the area where the alleged incident took place, they realized that the report was false.
Police then checked the men and recovered over $2,900 from their truck. Police have detained the two men pending charges.
Following a spike in the number of truck robberies last week, the Belize Police Department issued a notice to business owners regarding safety issues surrounding deliveries.
