Champions Verdes edge San Pedro Pirates 1-0, one game short of a perfect FFB Top League championship

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Champions Verdes edged San Pedro Pirates 1-0 at the Edmund Marshalleck Stadium in Benque Viejo del Carmen on Saturday and are now one game short of a perfect FFB Top League championship.

Edwin Villeda Bernal scored the only goal of the match for the Green Machine which this season decided to take two of their games to Benque. Looks like the right decision by the good turnout they have had.

In the Opening Championship, Verdes finished undefeated but dropped two points against the Blue Tsunami of San Pedro in their last match. Now they made sure they got the win though it wasn’t easy as the Pirates put up a good fight.

For Verdes to finish with ten wins, they now have to beat Altitude in their last match on Saturday, April 23 at the Michael Ashcroft in Independence.

For San Pedro, dropping the match meant conceding the subchampionship to Altitude who won 1-0 over Wagiya at Independence. Altitude now have 17 points to San Pedro’s 14 and even if San Pedro were to win over Garden City and Altitude lose to Verdes in the final weekend of action, Altitude have a five-goal advantage that would be extremely difficult to surmount.
