By BBN Staff: Two truck drivers who falsely reported that they had been robbed were arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today on a single charge of mischievous act.

The men, 22-year-old Mark Anthony Umana and 31-year-old Esvin Vernon, reported to police that while making deliveries on the morning of Friday, April 8 three armed men held them at gunpoint and stole a total of $2,950 from them. Police investigations revealed that the incident never occurred and both men were arrested and charged. Police also recovered the money which was allegedly stolen from inside their delivery truck.

In court, the men immediately pleaded guilty and apologized to the Belize Police Department for their actions.

They were fined $150 each plus $5 court which they need to pay by May 31 or they will spend six months in jail for default.
