By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Julio Padilla Miranda is returning to defend the Holy Saturday Cross Country Cycling Classic crown he won in 2019, the last time the Classic was held.
Padilla and his two teammates Rony Julajú and José Canastuj raked the top three spots in that order on April 20. They ran for their team Ópticas Deluxe but were enlisted as the Guatemalan National Cycling Team with the Cycling Federation of Belize.
This year Padilla is returning with Canastuj and U23 rider Elí Sisimith under the Ópticas Deluxe banner. Opticas Deluxe is one of the strongest teams in Guatemala.
The three are expected to go for the championship again on Holy Saturday.
Padilla was second in 2016 when his brother Alejandro Padilla won the race.
In effect, the Padillas won three of the last four Cross Countries as Alejandro also won in 2018.
