By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The San Ignacio-Santa Elena (SISE) Easter Fair will be held during the day from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm at Macal River Bank on both sides of the Macal River on Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday.

“Officially we’re holding it at the riverbank,” said San Ignacio-Santa Elena Mayor Earl Trapp who has been busy along with the town councilors preparing the grounds.

“Normally we hold it at the Macal Park but because of the COVID-19 pandemic we did not do a big plan. It was a late planning that led us to this riverside Easter Fair. Now that we know that the SIs (Statutory Instruments) have lifted, we proceeded with holding the fair at the riverside. The difference is that we cannot go all the way through the night into the morning because we are dealing with water and water and liquor do not mix. So, we are just holding the fair from 10 in the morning to seven in the evening both Saturday and Sunday.”

Mayor Trapp said the SISE Easter Fair features sporting activities as part of the fair including beach football and volleyball, canoe races, tug or war, greasy pole, greasy pig, kite contest, and an egg hunt.

“We’ll have musical entertainment for dancing and listening pleasure. We’ll have all different kinds of food. We have all the stalls set up,” said Trapp.

“On Saturday, we’ll have a DJ competition from 11 in the morning. We have seven DJs lined up already. On Sunday we start the Fair at 10 in the morning with the canoe races from Sandy Bay to the Low-Lying Bridge. Then it continues with the live performance by the Caribbean Rhythm Band.

“The beach volleyball and football competitions finish on Sunday as well. We’ll be having the egg hunt and kite contest on Sunday. We’ll have the watermelon eating contest and the tug of war on Sunday as well.

Trapp said they’ll have no mechanical rides this year.

“But we’ll have the giant slide and the bouncy house. We’ll also have ATVs, four wheelers, for rides,” he added

To facilitate the Easter Fair, the Low-Lying Bridge will be closed both days.

“We’re closing the Low-Lying Bridge from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm for safety,” said Mayor Trapp.

“The Fairgrounds will be on both sides of the Low-Lying Bridge, so to make it safer for pedestrians the streets on either side of the bridge will become a part of the fairgrounds, so automatically we will have to close the area from by Pandy’s or St Ignatius on top of the hill to the other side by the San Ignacio Market.”
