By Aaron Humes: The last 48 hours have been a roller coaster of emotions for Eugene Moody, 47, of Sandhill, Belize District.
On Wednesday night, playing along with Mega Bingo on Facebook, he saw it had come down to the final two numbers and then hit number 28.
The father of two and employee of Belize Water Services Limited told reporters when collecting the jackpot on Thursday that he had told his wife, “babes, I feel like I win this thing you know. At the same time, I’m going through, I told my wife, babes I win, you know. She said, no. I said yes!”
Then he thought better of it and did not initially react to the announcement of a winner of the $675,282 progressive jackpot, thinking he was happy for whoever won.
But on checking in at the Mega Bingo office in Belize City, hoping for any amount, the person in charge “checked it, and she said but Mr Moody, you won the mega bingo, the jackpot. I said, no. She said yes! Right then I started feeling kinda… you know those ways. In here start to get bubbly and my hand inside started to get sweaty.”
After taxes, Moody takes home a “handy” 573 thousand dollars and as you might expect, has many plans for it. “I never really owned a land or a house so my plan is to really build a house for me and my wife. I know sometimes thing is like from hand to mouth and we got kids, have to pay their school fees, I have a lot of things that I’d really like to get dealt with and some bills too I’d want to finish pay some bills because in life you have to end up borrowing money to pay off certain things or to get certain things that you need.”
The jackpot reverts to $100,000 for the next airing of the show after the Easter break.
