FAL’s Marlon Castillo is looking strong upfront as 501 Valvoline’s Oscar Quiroz, G-Flow’s Giovanni Lovell, and Guatemalan Julio Padilla mounted a heavy chase in the 2022 Holy Saturday Cross Country Cycling Classic which saw the gap close to just under five minutes.
Castillo won the Rockville station prize at 10:52 am in the pace along with Westrac Alliance’s Byron Pope, Anguillan Hasani Hennis, and American John DeLong.
At Mile 32, just before 10:30 am, 501 Valvoline’s Oscar Quiroz, G-Flow’s Giovanni Lovell, and Guatemalan Julio Padilla mounted a heavy chase to try to catch up front four who led them by 6:20 after dropping Barbadian Joshua Kelly, unattached Nashen Ysaguirre, 501 Valvoline’s Joslyn Chavarria, and Road Rage’s Richard Santiago and quickly developed a minute lead.
As they passed the Belize Zoo and turned the curve onto the straight, the front four, Belizeans FAL’s Marlon Castillo and Westrac Alliance’s Byron Pope, Anguillan Hasani Hennis, and American John DeLong became visible to them. And as they picked up the pace, they started cutting on the front four lead.
The question is: Was the move too late or is there enough time for them to close the gap before Belize City?
