By Benjamin Flowers: Today, Pope Francis held his first outdoor Easter Sunday mass since 2020, when the COVId-19 pandemic closed the world to such activities, NBC News reports.
The mass was held in St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican City, where the Pope expressed his grief over the war in Ukraine and other armed conflicts over the world, describing the situation as “senseless.”
The Pope also described the possibility of nuclear warfare breaking out as a result of the war in Ukraine as “troubling.”
“May there be peace for war-torn Ukraine, so sorely tried by the violence and destruction of this cruel and senseless war into which it was dragged,” Pope Francis said, speaking from the central balcony of St Peter’s Square.
The Pope had been a major advocate of vaccination during the height of the pandemic, calling it a “moral obligation” to get vaccinated against the virus to help end its grip on the world. He also went on record to criticize groups spreading false information about vaccines.
