By Aaron Humes: Video circulated of a police officer on the ground of an establishment in Placencia Village, Stann Creek District, apparently unconscious after being knocked out with a shot to the head from behind while conducting an arrest.

The accused individual has come forward via social media, saying the hit was accidental and a response to a prior confrontation. He has retained the services of an attorney and will turn himself in sometime today; until then we will not identify him.

The accused says he was in Placencia from Thursday and on Saturday night, he and his friend were buying drinks and according to him, “not disturbing anyone.”

He alleges one of the officers approached one of his friends and aggressed him, whereupon he inquired what was the problem. He further alleges that the officer directly sprayed pepper spray into his eyes. Blinded, he claims he swung out in the air, trying to get the burning sensation out, and managed to knock out the officer.

The accused says his acts were not intentional and he will not be railroaded by the law. Reports suggested he and his colleagues immediately left the area after the incident.
