By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize Athletics Association (BAA) said it is pleased with the Meyers’ family representation at the 49th Carifta Games in Kingston, Jamaica.
Twelve-year-old Demetrie Meyers won silver in the Under 17 3000-meter race. Meyers ran the distance in 9 minutes, 33.42 seconds behind Barbados’ Fynn Armstrong who clocked 9:21.31. Jamaica’s Tyrone Lawson was third in 9:34.46.
“The Belize Athletics Association would like to take this time to congratulate the Meyers family on a great representation at the 49th Edition of the CARIFTA Games hosted in Kingston, Jamaica from the 16 – 18, April, 2022,” said the Belize Athletics Association.
“Special thanks to the father/coach/delegate Mr. Gregory Meyers who made us proud by taking the kids and doing all that was necessary for Belize and the Kids to represent well.”
The Belize Athletics Association (BAA) said Belize was being represented by the three Meyers’ children: 15-year-old Daniel, 12-year-old Demetrie Meyers, and 12-year-old Mallory Meyers. The three attend schools in Havertown, Pennsylvania.
The BAA explained that while they were born in the United States, their parents are Belizeans.
The next best placement was Mallory’s. She was fourth in the U17 3000 in 11:08.23.
“We do hope to attend more of the CARIFTA games in the future with more representation and better results,” said the BAA.
